Information for Parents
Is your teen experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulty dealing with life stressors, or exploring their identity?
Are they struggling with attendance, task organization, and/or school-related stress?
More than ever, teenagers are experiencing increased levels of anxiety and depression, especially in light of the return to in-person instruction. I have worked as a high school counselor for over six years and as such, offer a unique perspective where I am able to balance both the parent’s and patient’s perspectives, needs, and goals. I use a community-based approach to create a network of supports for students, starting with the client themselves. I help teens identify what is causing their trouble, work with them to determine the tools and skills we will implement, and provide a space for the emotional work necessary to make meaningful change.
While therapy is an individual undertaking, healing - especially for adolescents living at home - often involves collaboration with loved-ones and the larger community. In addition to working one-on-one with your teen, I am available for as-needed sessions with parents of my clients to help them understand their child’s needs, communicate better, and establish patterns that will help reinforce positive behaviors at home and school. I can also be present at school meetings such as 504s, IEPs, and other collaborative meetings to serve as an advocate for your child.
